The Healthcare Intelligence Platform accelerating AI-driven transformation.
What happens when one of the world’s most important industries has enormous amounts of data—but that data cannot talk to each other?
That was the problem three young entrepreneurs set out to solve in 2014.
Today, Innovaccer has grown into a major healthcare technology company, building software that connects fragmented healthcare data and uses AI to automate clinical, operational, and financial workflows.
But its journey did not begin with AI.
Innovaccer was founded in 2014 by Abhinav Shashank, Kanav Hasija, and Sandeep Gupta.
The company initially had a broader mission: helping organizations bring fragmented data together. But after about three years, the founders decided to focus exclusively on healthcare.
And they found a massive problem.
Hospitals, insurance companies, pharmacies, laboratories, and clinics were generating huge amounts of data—but much of it lived inside separate systems.
A patient's medical history could be stored in one Electronic Health Record (EHR), insurance information somewhere else, and pharmacy or laboratory data in another system.
The information existed.
The problem was that it was disconnected.
“Healthcare lived in a pre-internet era. There was no connected fabric of information that existed.”
— Abhinav Shashank, co-founder and CEO of Innovaccer
Instead of trying to replace existing hospital software, Innovaccer took a different approach.
It built a data and software layer on top of existing healthcare systems.
The goal was to connect data from different EHRs and other healthcare sources, organize it, and turn it into useful information for healthcare organizations.
That sounds simple.
It wasn't.
According to Shashank, Innovaccer spent around two years and more than $100 million building connectivity across major EHR systems.
This infrastructure became the foundation for the company's healthcare platform.
Over time, Innovaccer expanded beyond simply unifying data into areas such as population health, value-based care, patient engagement, analytics, and financial workflows.
The company's growth attracted major investors.
In February 2021, Innovaccer raised a Series D round that brought its valuation to $1.3 billion, making it a unicorn.
Later that year, the company raised another $150 million Series E, led by Mubadala Capital.
That round valued Innovaccer at approximately $3.2 billion, taking its total funding at the time to more than $375 million.
But Innovaccer wasn't finished expanding.
In January 2025, Innovaccer raised $275 million in Series F funding from investors including B Capital Group, Banner Health, Danaher Ventures, Generation IM, Kaiser Permanente, and Microsoft's M12.
TechCrunch reported that the primary funding valued the company at approximately $3.45 billion.
The company's ambition had also changed.
It was no longer just trying to become a healthcare data company.
It wanted to become an AI platform for healthcare.
In 2025, Innovaccer launched Innovaccer Gravity, a healthcare-native intelligence platform designed to bring together clinical, financial, operational, and other enterprise data while providing infrastructure for AI applications.
The next step was even more ambitious: AI agents.
Instead of AI simply showing doctors information, Innovaccer wanted AI systems to actually help perform repetitive work.
Its applications include areas such as medical documentation, prior authorization, scheduling, claims, and denial management.
The idea is straightforward:
Don't just give healthcare workers more information. Give them systems that can act on that information.
Innovaccer has also used acquisitions to expand its capabilities.
In 2025, it acquired Story Health, an AI-powered specialty-care company focused on continuous digital care.
In 2026, it acquired CaduceusHealth, a revenue-cycle-management company, to strengthen its AI-powered financial and billing capabilities. Innovaccer said the acquisition was its fifth.
The strategy is becoming clear:
Connect the data.
Understand the data.
Use AI on the data.
Then automate the work.
Innovaccer's ambition has moved far beyond being another healthcare software company.
Its current vision is to build an AI-native operating layer for healthcare—one that connects fragmented systems and allows AI agents to work across clinical, operational, and financial processes.
The company has also expanded its technology partnerships, including a multi-year collaboration with AWS announced in 2026 to help healthcare organizations move AI from experiments into production environments.
Innovaccer's story is not simply about raising billions of dollars or adding AI to healthcare.
It is about identifying a problem that most people overlook:
Sometimes the biggest opportunity isn't creating more data. It's making the data that already exists actually work together.
Innovaccer started by trying to connect fragmented information.
More than a decade later, it is trying to turn that connected information into something much more powerful:
an autonomous healthcare system where AI doesn't just provide insights—it helps get the work done.
Key Takeaway:
Innovaccer's journey shows how a startup can start with a broad technology problem, find a painful industry-specific use case, build difficult infrastructure, and then use that infrastructure as the foundation for an entirely new product category.
